Research Project: Citation Format

We are using citation guidelines of the Society for American Archaeology in citing non-original information and preparing the bibliography for the research paper outline and final paper.

Citations are parenthetical
, meaning they are given in parentheses within the text.  Citations are not footnotes or end notes.

To cite
paraphrased information in the body of your outline or paper, give the author's last name and the year of publication either at the end of the sentence or within the sentence.
To cite
directly quoted information in the body of your outline or paper, give the author's last name and the year of publication either at the end of the sentence or within the sentence.
The bibliography is placed on a separate page with the heading REFERENCES at the top.  All references are arranged alphabetically by author's last name. The bibliography is single spaced with double spaces between entries.

Ask me or consult the SAA web site for additional information about citations and bibliography entries.
