Western Kentucky University is pleased to announce the finalists for the Director of the Carol Martin Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science in Kentucky.

This website provides information about the finalists as well as background information on WKU, the Gatton Academy, and the Bowling Green, KY area.

The Gatton Academy, founded in 2007, is a statewide residential school for high achieving high school juniors and seniors interested in careers in STEM fields. It is located on the campus of Western Kentucky University where Academy students take university courses taught by university faculty. Newsweek has named the Gatton Academy the number one public high school in the United States in both 2012 and 2013.

The academic rigor of the Gatton Academy challenges its students to excel at the highest levels, while drawing connections between the classroom and real-world research options. In addition to their coursework, Academy students have one-on-one mentorships with university faculty through research projects conducted completely outside of the classroom. 100% of Gatton Academy students have matriculated to a 4-year college or university; the Academy has had 54 National Merit Semifinalists and National Achievement Scholars to date; in the class of 2014, 80% of the students have had international travel experience and 73% have presented their research at academic conferences.

Western Kentucky University is a progressive, proactive institution that seeks candidates possessing the same qualities. WKU, one of the fastest growing universities in the state of Kentucky for the past 15 years, is located in Bowling Green, Kentucky, with a total enrollment of over 21,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The area (with an urbanized population of 90,000+) is noted for its high quality of life, increasing cultural diversity, and modest cost of living. It is located close to both Nashville and Louisville. To learn more about Bowling Green, click here.
