CANstruct for a Cause challenges organizations and groups to collect canned goods, which will be donated to local food banks. This year's focus is to build awareness of local food access and community efforts to ensure everyone has access to food. During CANstruct for a Cause, participants build structures representative of their organization and groups. Then, they will take part in a reflective portion to discuss local poverty and food needs.
Who can participate?
Campus and community groups of two or more participants can form a group. This may consist of youth, church, civic, or campus groups.
Is there a minimum number of cans to collect?
There is a no minimum number of cans to collect. It is suggested to collect at least 100 canned goods.
Who gets the canned goods?
The canned goods will be donated to the American Red Cross, HOTEL INC, and WKU Food Abides.
How can I sign up a group?
Groups can sign up by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org. The deadline to register is April 5th, but some late registered may be accepted.
How can I participate if I do not have a group?
There are a number of ways individuals can participate without having a group.
- Come out to view the structures between 4:00-5:00pm.
- Donate non-persishable items the night of the event.
- Volunteer at the event helping with various tasks and collecting canned goods.
- Serve as a volunteer packaging the canned goods at the close of the event.
An award will be given for the most cans collected, most creative structure, and best overall structure.
