The Applied Physics Institute’s mission is to conduct research to solve real world problems, provide educational experiences to students, and advance the high tech development of the region.

About Us

The Applied Physics Institute is a multidisciplinary center performing research and development projects in nanoscale physics, material science, nuclear physics, and cyber physical systems. 

The Applied Physics Institute was established at Western Kentucky University (WKU) in 1994 as a team of professors, engineers and student researchers that perform basic and applied research in diverse areas.

The institute is located in Bowling Green, KY, at the WKU Center for Research and Development, and has been the part of the Applied Research and Technology Program since 1998.

The Applied Physics Institute's projects are supported by federal and state grants. Research efforts are facilitated by API faculty.

Directions

The Applied Physics Institute is located in the WKU Center for Research and Development on the corner of Campbell Lane and Nashville Road in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

From I-65 take Exit 20 (Natcher Parkway) to Exit 4 (Bowling Green-US-31W N). Merge right onto Nashville Road, continue to follow US-31W North. Travel approximately 1.5 mile to the Center for Research and Development, on the left. The main entrance to the Applied Physics Institute is from the Campbell Lane side.
