Applied Physics Institute - Outreach

Outreach

To meet the diverse needs of regional, national and virtual communities in responsive and engaging ways, the Applied Physics Institute delivers educational opportunities to individuals, organizations, and the public, and performs outreach efforts.

High Schools

API members help with the Science Olympiad, Kentucky FIRST LEGO League, and Physics Olympics, a yearly competitions for high school students who like to meet challenges and do projects in all areas of applied science and technology.

Our faculty advise students of The Carol Martin Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Sciences in Kentucky and direct their research projects performed at the Applied Physics Institute during academic semesters and summer months. The goals of the Gatton Academy are to enable Kentucky’s exceptional young scientists and mathematicians to learn in an environment which offers advanced educational opportunities, preparing them for leadership roles in a knowledge-based economy of 21st century. The Academy provides a rich living/learning environment designed specifically for academically talented adolescent students that features research, clubs, organizations and community service.
