WKU’S 10TH ANNUAL SPRING RETIREMENT WEEK

Session Recordings

Don’t forget to self-report your participation in Spring Retirement Week for 50 Top Life points.  Follow the instructions below to redeem your points:

  1. Log in to https://www.wku.edu/benefits/healthfitness  
  2. Click on “Rewards”, then click on the “Continue” button to the right of “Wellness Seminar/Activity”
  3. Click on the “+” sign to expand the Self-Reported Trackers.  Click on the green +Track button to add a new entry for a Wellness Seminar/Activity, enter the date you completed the seminar, and type in “Retirement Week 2017” in the notes 
  4. Click Save & Finish

 

Session Title:                      Introduction to Saving at WKU

Presenter:                          Kari Aikins, Department of Human Resources

Who Should Watch:        Anyone interested in learning more about the retirement options available at WKU

Session Description:     This session is designed to introduce participants to retirement options at WKU.  Kari Aikins, HR Department, will provide an overview of the savings vehicles available, explain differences between types of retirement accounts, and familiarize participants with common retirement terminology.  We will highlight the importance of saving for the future and how to develop a strategy to maximize your income in retirement. Plan now so you can relax later!

Session Title:          WKU’s Transitional Retirement Plan (TRP) for Faculty

Presenter:                          Kari Aikins, Department of Human Resources

Who Should Watch:        Faculty members planning to retire from WKU and continue teaching part-time

Session Description:     Kari Aikins, Asst. HR Director, Total Compensation, will provide an overview of WKU's TRP. Faculty members eligible for retirement but wishing to continue teaching on a part-time basis following retirement should attend this informative session and see if it might be a good fit. The TRP is designed to transition faculty members into full retirement over 5 years while continuing to provide unique salary and benefit opportunities during the transition. Human Resources will provide tools for estimating your retirement income and demonstrate how this program could actually increase your net income.

Session Title:                      TRS (formerly KTRS) Educational Session

Presenter:                          Lori Stepp, TRS

Who Should Watch:        Participants in the Teachers' Retirement System or those considering moving from ORP to TRS

Session Description:     Lori Stepp from TRS will lead a group informational session and answer your questions regarding TRS retirement plan benefits. This session is strongly recommended for any participant in TRS. New and active TRS members will gain a better understanding of the retirement system benefits.

Session Title:                      KRS General Education Session

Presenter:                          Ashley Gabbard, KRS

Who Should Watch:        Participants in the KY Employees' Retirement System (non-hazardous or hazardous)

Session Description:     Ashley Gabbard, KRS representative, will lead a session and answer your questions regarding KRS retirement plan benefits. This session is strongly recommended for new and active members who wish to gain a better understanding of the benefits of the KRS retirement system.

Session Title:                      KRS Pre-Retirement Education Session

Presenter:                          Ashley Gabbard, KRS

Who Should Watch:        Participants in the KY Employees' Retirement System (non-hazardous or hazardous) nearing retirement (within the next 3 to 5 years)

Session Description:     Ashley Gabbard, KRS representative, will lead a session for those nearing retirement. This informative session will provide an overview of the various retirement options, the retirement process, retiree health insurance, and answer your questions about retiring under KRS.

Session Title:                      Fundamentals of Retirement Planning

Presenter:                          Tony Davis, Fidelity

Who Should Watch:        For employees thinking about or looking to retire within 5 to 15 years or those that are at and over age 50

Session Description:     Tony Davis, Retirement Planner with Fidelity, will lead this session designed for employees thinking about or looking to retire within 5 to 15 years or those that are at and over age 50. The goal of this workshop will be to understand the financial and personal risks pre-retirees may face and how to put a plan in place to prepare for living in retirement.

Session Title:                      529 College Savings Plan

Presenter:                          David Lawhorn, KHEAA

Who Should Watch:        Those interested in saving for higher education expenses for their families

Session Description:     David Lawhorn, Program Manager with Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority, will lead a session explaining the benefits of using the state sponsored 529 College Savings Program. Information on how this tax advantaged savings plan can help families save for higher education expenses will be discussed.
