Electrical engineering students to participate in robotics competition
- Thursday, March 15th, 2012
Ten WKU electrical engineering students will participate in a robotics competition this weekend at the 2012 IEEE Southeast Conference in Orlando, Fla.
The following students from the WKU IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) student branch will attend the March 15-18 conference for the autonomous robot competition: Cody Mahan of London, Alex Moore of Bowling Green, Jon Marques of Prospect, Yinan Li of Bowling Green, Will Nalle of Somerset, Carlos Ramirez-Leon of Sebree, Brian Presnell of Bowling Green, Kris Unnikannan of Warsaw, Richard Pape of Bowling Green and Adam Emberton of Bowling Green. Department of Engineering faculty and staff members Walter Collett, Ron Rizzo and Stacy Wilson also will attend the competition and conference.
The students have designed and built an autonomous robot that can traverse a maze-like course, analyzing electrical signals and other information along the way to point it in the right direction. Points will be assessed for correctly reading and interpreting this information as it circulates the track. The robot has an onboard microprocessor that has been programmed to guide the robots through the course.
The WKU robot will compete against approximately 35 other university teams from across the southeastern United States.
