During a golf match with WKU friends in early 1988, Louisville accountant and Bowling Green Business University alum Gordon Ford expressed an interest in giving money to the university's capital campaign. After a few more phone calls and luncheon meetings, Mr. Ford finalized his offer to WKU on a handwritten note: $10.6 million. The donation was the largest single gift in the school's history at the time.

The gift was given to the business school later that year, inspiring a name change to the Gordon Ford College of Business.

Mr. Ford was born Sept. 27, 1913 in Greenville, Ky.
