Biography

Patricia Witcher began her professional career as a Registered Dietitian.  While serving as a dietitian, she spent the majority of her days meeting with patients and their families and teaching the impact of proper nutrition on their health.  It was during this time that she realized how passionate she was about teaching and communicating.

As a result, Patricia pursued her Master’s degree in Communication, graduating from WKU in May 2002.  She then accepted a teaching position in the Department of Communication in August 2002 and has just completed her twentieth year at WKU.  Patricia teaches COMM 145 and COMM 365. Patricia’s attention to detail and strong organization skills serve her well in her instructional role.  She loves meeting, working with, and getting to know her students and takes great enjoyment from helping them realize their potential and achieve their goals.  She also views teaching as a giant puzzle (and she appreciates the opportunity to assist in the assembling of pieces to achieve a finished product).

In her free time, Patricia loves to bake, read, travel, spend time with family, and try new restaurants.

Teaching Interests

Patricia finds the relationship between communication and culture, as well as the exchange of ideas and information across cultures, fascinating.  She firmly believes that we can learn so much from each other and develop a greater appreciation for diversity when we take the time to learn about the world around us. She also enjoys helping students learn skills and strategies for coping with speech anxiety, as well as how crucial organization and a clear development of ideas are when developing a speech topic/idea.
