Bio
First introduced to engineering by his father, Dr. Kevin Schmaltz attended Virginia Tech and earned a BSME degree. He then worked for Shell Oil in New Orleans, Louisiana, as a maintenance engineer and then a design engineer for offshore Gulf of Mexico oil platforms. He proceeded with masters and doctoral studies in ME at Tulane University and Carnegie-Mellon University, respectively. Through tutoring experiences with undergraduate students while at graduate school, Dr. Schmaltz decided to stay in the field of academic education – first at Lake Superior State University and now at WKU – where he can share a variety of experiences and design challenges with his students.
