Research

My research interests include literacy studies, oral & written histories of the South Central Kentucky region (particularly South Union Shaker narratives), and the use of writing in therapeutic practice.

Bio

I became a Hilltopper in 1981 when I came to college to study nursing, a field that I realized after a couple of semesters was not well-suited for me. After a leave of absence from student life to raise a family, I returned to WKU as a nontraditional student, and in May 2000, I earned an Associate’s Degree in General Studies and a Bachelor’s Degree in English and the Allied Language Arts.  In May 2003, I earned my M.A. in English (TESL emphasis) from WKU.

Teaching Philosophy

My teaching philosophy is a potpourri composed of active and student-centered learning.  Students in my classes experience guided discussions, mini-workshops, hands-on learning experiences and collaborative feedback.
