Loan Requests

The information below describes the steps for decreasing or increasing your federal loan. Click on the options below that best suits your needs.

Loan Increases

  • If the full amount of the federal student loan was not accepted, and you would like to have your loan increased, please send a request to fa.loans@wku.edu
  • Please list Loan Increase as the email title
  • Indicate both the amount the loan should be increased by, and the total amount that you (the student) wish to borrow.
    • For example, if the loan is currently $1,000 and you would like to borrow an additional $500, you would indicate in the body of your email that you would like your loan to be increased by $500, for a total loan amount of $1,500.

Remember: Submitting a loan request does NOT automatically guarantee an approval.

Loan Decreases

  • If you accepted MORE of your federal student loan than you intended, please send an email to fa.loans@wku.edu
  • Please list Loan Decrease as the email title
  • Indicate the amount that you would like to have your loan decreased by, and the total you (the student) want your loan to be.
    • For example, if you accepted $2,000 and you only meant to accept $500, you would indicate in the body of the email that you would like your loan decreased by $1,500, for a total loan amount of $500.

Remember: Submitting a loan request does NOT automatically guarantee an approval.

The parent borrower will need to log in to his/her account at StudentLoans.gov to request an increase or decrease to his/her Parent PLUS Loan.

Please keep in mind that if an increase is being requested, the amount requested will be split evenly between the Fall and Spring semesters. For example, if an increase of $500 is needed for Fall, the increase should be requested for $1,000, which will be split into $500 for Fall and $500 for Spring.

All requests made through StudentLoans.gov will be sent directly to our office.

Remember: Submitting a loan request does NOT automatically guarantee an approval.
