Allen County Folklife & Oral History Project

The Allen County Folklife and Oral History Project is a two-year project made possible by a grant from the Laura Goad Turner Charitable Foundation in order to document both the rich history and the vibrant present of Allen County.

Using recorded interviews, photography, and videography, students from Western Kentucky University's Department of Folk Studies and Anthropology cover a broad range of historical and cultural themes, identifying the elements that make community life in the region unique.

Kentucky Folklife Program has continued to build on this work through collaborative workshops with local high school students, and working with the Kentucky Arts Council to offer a Community Scholars Program in Allen County.
