Dr. Joelle Davis Carter
Assistant Vice President for Retention and Student Services
Dr. Joelle Davis Carter was appointed as WKU’s first Assistant Vice President for Retention and Student Services in August 2012. She is responsible for coordinating and implementing efforts across campus to increase the retention and graduation rates for undergraduate students. Prior to WKU, she served as the Director for Undergraduate Programs in the George Washington University School of Business. Dr. Carter received her Bachelor of Science degree in Middle Grades Education from Winston-Salem State University and master’s degree in higher education from The Ohio State University. She received her Ph.D. in educational policy and leadership from the University of Maryland College Park. With more than 16 years of experience developing academic and student support services to enhance the engagement of college students, Dr. Carter has received a number of awards and recognition for her contributions to student development including the 2011 Melvene Draheim Hardee Award from the Southern Association for College Student Affairs and a Governor’s citation from the State of Maryland for the development of programs designed to increase of the participation of young women in science, technology, engineering and math majors.
