Big Red Gig Instructors

John Martin

John earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Western Kentucky University and a Master of Music degree from Austin Peay State University. He has taught at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky for the past 12 years and is currently director of guitar and music technology studies at WKU.

John has appeared in Guitar Player magazine, is a two time winner of Guitar Player magazine’s readers’ challenge, is an artist for Godin guitars, and has made concert appearances with artists such as Al Martino, Norm Crosby, Tinsley Ellis, Clint Holmes, Red Buttons, and Tracy Lawrence.

Don Hicks

Don holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Western Kentucky University, and a Master’s degree in Education from Georgetown College. He has taught Band & Choir in Missouri and Kentucky since 1994.

He is currently the director of the Bryan Station High School Guitar program. He has attended the NAMM/GAMA/NAfME Teaching Guitar Workshops Levels I & II and hosted a TGW Level I workshop in the summer of 2011.
