Please note that the e-CHUG organization has changed their name to eCHECKUP TO GO. This will soon be reflected in their website and materials and emails that are sent
to you. This is still the same program. WKU will continue to use the name e-CHUG at
this time.
e-CHUG Assessment Details:
e-CHUG is a brief confidential self-assessment tool, designed to give students personalized feedback about their
alcohol use. The basic intervention/assessment takes about 20-30 minutes to complete
and review. It draws on Motivational Interviewing (Miller & Rollnick, 2002) and Social
Norms feedback theories (Haines & Spear, 1996).
The e-CHUG, is currently in use on nearly 400 universities and colleges across 42
states and in Canada & Australia, is an on-line adaptation of the Check-Up to Go (CHUG).
The feedback, that is included with the assessment is as follows:
- Quantity and Frequency of Drinking, Caloric Intake
- Amount Consumed and Peak BAC
- Cost of alcohol spent
- Norm Comparisons
- Amount and Percent of Income Spent on Alcohol
- Tolerance Level
- Negative Consequences of Alcohol Use
- Genetic Risk Score Explanation, advice, local referral information
There is also a Personal Reflections & Verification of Completion (PRVC) program that is designed to provide you an opportunity to reflect on your personal e-CHUG
feedback report. You will be asked to provide personally identifiable information
about yourself and thoughtful answers to a few questions about your e-CHUG feedback
report. This component is to offer additional verification and add to your experience
of the online self-assessment. This can be taken at the end of your survey under the
Resources Section/Tab on your report. Answers from the e-CHUG Self-assessment and
the PRVC are not matched. Your e-CHUG information remains confidential and will not
be able to be viewed even if you complete the PRVC.
NOTE: If you are required to take the e-CHUG or are taking as a WellRed participant, please note that you must complete the PRVC and answer the open-ended questions at the end of the assessment summary (click on the green check mark).
WellU participants must also send an email notification to Kathryn Steward that they have completed the assessment & PRVC and that credit needs to be applied to their account.
For questions re: the survey, please contact Kathryn Steward, Assistant Director of Health Education with WKU Health Services, at 745-5033.
