In Their Shoes 

(Formerly "Shantytown")

Experience what it's like "in their shoes" through interactive stations. Will you come out on top or be left without? You might be surprised at what you learn about someone else or about your own life.

At this interactive event, the place where you sit, and the meal that you eat, are determined by the luck of the draw—just as in real life some of us are born into relative prosperity and others into poverty.

The residence halls will close on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at Noon, with the exception of Barnes-Campbell, Bemis Lawrence, Northeast and Southwest Halls.

ATTENTION Rodes Harlin Hall Residents: Rodes Harlin Hall will close at 10:00 a.m. due to a planned power outage.

The lobby cores will be changed and no one will be permitted into the halls after noon on Wednesday. Please make sure you follow closedown procedures in your room before you leave for the break.

The halls will open on Friday, November 27, 2015 at Noon 


Procedures for all halls except Barnes-Campbell, Bemis Lawrence, Northeast and Southwest Halls:

  1. Throw away all trash
  2. Wash dishes
  3. Unplug everything except the refrigerator
  4. Set room temperature on 65 degrees and the fan speed in auto mode -OR- at halfway between blue and red with the fan speed on low (depending on what building you live in). 
  5. Close and lock windows
  6. Turn off room lights
  7. Lock your door

Rodes Harlin Hall Residents - Please unplug and defrost your refrigerator due to the planned power outage


Procedures for Barnes-Campbell Hall, Bemis Lawrence Hall, Northeast and Southwest Hall:

Barnes Campbell Hall, Bemis Lawrence Hall, Northeast Hall and Southwest Hall will remain open during the Thanksgiving Break.The buildings will be relatively empty. If you are leaving for the break, please take these precautions to ensure your room is safe and secure.

  1. Throw away all trash
  2. Wash dishes
  3. Unplug everything except the refrigerator
  4. According to the type of thermostat in your room, set room temperature on 65 degrees and fan speed on auto -OR- at the halfway between blue and red and with the fan speed on low
  5. Close and lock windows
  6. Turn off room lights
  7. Lock your door

Graduating in December? Looking for your first apartment or rental home? Join the department of Housing and Residence Life, the Homeless and Housing Coalition of Southcentral Kentucky, and the WKU Student Coalition for Renter's Rights for "Living Off: Deposits, Leases, and Landlords," Monday, November 30th, 4-6pm, in DSU 2085. Learn what to look for in an apartment and/or rental property, how to read your lease, ensure the safety and security of your living environment, and protect your rights. 

 

 Remember: All full-time freshmen and sophomore students are required to live on-campus. Students found in non-compliance with this Required Housing Policy will be assessed a $1,000 per semester fee. Additionally, if you currently live on-campus, remain a full-time student, and move off-campus, you will be subject to a contract termination fee ($750).
