Wii™ the People is a civically-minded bowling league that brings together diverse groups of people to bridge polarization and revitalize active community dialogue.
Wii™ the People Bowling League was inspired by Robert Putnam's compelling book, Bowling Alone. Putnam's book describes the breakdown in American civic involvement and social capital in the latter of half of the 20th century. As an institution dedicated to developing the capacities of our communities, ICSR created Wii™ the People Bowling League to bring together groups with very different ideas in our community to dialogue, explain ideas, and hopefully find common ground.
The ICSR's Wii the People bowling league takes place in the spring semester and generally takes on a theme (e.g. politics, local and national issues, religious diversity). Each league includes up to twelve teams.
- 4 Week Regular Season
- Play once per week (1 hour commitment)
- 2 Leagues (Randomly Selected)
- 1 Championship Game
- Common Ground - participants will be actively involved in working together on a contemporary topic to discover areas of similarities.

A Civically Minded Bowling League:
"Let us find ways to ensure that ...Americans will spend less leisure time sitting passively alone in front of a glowing screen and more time in active connection with our fellow citizens. Let us foster new forms of electronic entertainment and communication that reinforce community engagement rather than forestalling it. (Bowling Alone, Robert Putnam)
