WKU offers fun, enriching international programs and events for everyone. The International Student Office works with many campus and community organizations to provide platforms for cultural exchange.

Whether you want to try food from a different culture, enjoy the traditional music or dance of another country, or volunteer with and for the diverse Bowling Green community, we are sure you will find something going on that fits your interests and needs.

East Meets West: Peking Opera Event-Confucius Institute at WKU

Do you know anything about Peking Opera?  If the answer is no, well, the Confucius Institute at WKU is pleased to offer a series of "East meets West,” where you will have the opportunity to learn about the origins, and significance of Peking Opera.  In addition, you will be able to design and paint your very own Peking opera mask.  With Halloween on Monday, October 31st, the CI at WKU will allow the opportunity for faculty, staff and students to rent a traditional Chinese costume to wear with your very own Peking mask.  Due to limited costumes available, please RSVP to by Thursday, October 27, 2016.

A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night is a 2014 Persian-language horror film directed by Ana Lily Amirpour, and was chosen to show at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival.You are invited to a free screening of this with an introduction and discussion led by Saya Amiri, a graduate student at WKU. Snacks will be provided.


The Effects of Gender Quotas in South Korean Legislative Elections

Despite gender quotas, women represent only 20% of the National Assembly of South Korea. Visiting scholar Young-Im Lee , PhD, will discuss the effectiveness of these quotas.Young Im-Lee received her bachelor's and master's in American studies and political science from Sogang University in Korea. She then received another masters and her Ph.D. from the University of Missouri- St. Louis.


Making Kentucky Home: Stories From Our Diverse Community, International Potluck and Women's Panel

They will also be collecting lightly worn winter clothing for all ages and sizes on behalf of the Bowling Green International Center, so please bring jackets, shoes, and more to help our fellow neighbors and refugees. International Student Conference 

November 4-6, 2016
Cave City, KY
The International Student Conference is a life-changing event for international and US-college students from across Kentucky. Make new friends, celebrate culture and learn about the Christian faith at this fun-filled conference in beautiful Cave City, KY near Mammoth Cave!. Registration fee is $35 if registered before Oct. 30 and $45 after that date. It includes cost of attending the 3-day conference, full weekend of programming, hotel accommodations, as well as meals on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday morning.  For more information and to register go to


WKU Cultural Enhancement Series: Joel Sartore at WKU

See the bigger picture of ‘What is Public Health?’ by discovering public health on a global scale. Utilizing the diversity within the department of Public Health students from multiple countries and disciplines will share their culture and perspectives regarding some of the leading public health concerns today. Booths highlighting countries such as Nigeria, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, the United States, and Saudi Arabia will feature student research, international foods, clothing, and music from each country.
