Julian Goodman WKU Alumni & ex-NBC President Passes Away

WKU alum and ex-NBC president Julian Goodman died from kidney failure on July 2
at the age of 90. Mr. Goodman lived in Juno Beach, Florida since his retirement from
NBC’s board in 1979.
Charles M. Anderson, Professor Emeritus WKU School of Journalism and Broadcasting,
said, “Julian Goodman was one of Kentucky's and WKU's great success stories. Born and
raised in Glasgow, KY, he ascended to the top of the NBC news organization when it was
the gold standard in television journalism and then became president and later chairman
of the board of the NBC network.” During his tenure at NBC, he was known for his strong defense of the First Amendment and his clashes with the Nixon administration.
Mr. Goodman remained a good friend of the WKU journalism and broadcasting
programs over the years. Former Director of the School of Journalism and Broadcasting,
Jo-Ann Albers said, “The first broadcast equipment Western had for academic purposes
was used equipment sent by Goodman from NBC when it upgraded many, many years
ago.”
Brad Pfranger, assistant professor of broadcasting has been elected to the National Press Photographers Association Board of Directors. Pfranger replaces Mark Dolan, who was elected NPPA’s vice president.
