Exercise Science was created as a concentration under Physical Education in 1998, and became its own major program in 2008. Exercise Science now has over 400 students.

In 2008, 41 students and guests traveled to China for a study abroad project centered around Chinese history and culture as well as the Beijing Olympics.

Steven Powell is a 2002 graduate of the Recreation Program and 2004 graduate of the RSA program. He currently serves as the Associate Director of the Department of Campus Recreation at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida.
