License Plates Support Scholarships, Show Spirit

Bowling
Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University alumni and supporters can now wave the red towel everywhere they drive.
A newly-designed Kentucky license plate featuring the WKU red towel is now available. Nearly 5,000 vehicles in Kentucky currently sport the WKU plate that features the Cherry Hall cupola, a design that has been in place since 1998. Kentucky allowed universities to change designs this year.
“We thought it was a good opportunity to have something out there that WKU alumni, fans and friends can easily recognize. They can put the new plate on their cars and proudly wave their red towels,” said William Skaggs, associate director of Alumni Relations at WKU. “Wherever people drive, not only in Kentucky but out of state, people really recognize WKU’s red towel.”
Those purchasing the plates not only show school spirit, they help support scholarships. The tags cost $56 initially and $31 to renew. Of that, $10 each year goes to the general scholarship fund and to the Alumni Leadership Scholarship endowment. “They can drive around knowing they are helping students attend classes on the Hill,” Skaggs said.
The tags, which are good for five years and are renewed in December, are available from any county court clerk.
