Lataya Williams, Class of 2016

"I wholehearted believe the knowledge and experience I gained at WKU set the trajectory for where I am today. It’s a place that delighted me with the beauty of its campus, warmed my heart with newfound family and friends, and helped me discover my true potential. "

Lataya's Story

In my four years at WKU, I encountered numerous opportunities to grow both academically and professionally. As a member of the Honors College and a Public Relations major in one of the top journalism programs in the country, I experienced small class sizes and learned from professors with incredible resumes of experience. This learning environment really helped me excel and I proudly graduated summa cum laude.

Outside of class, I was on the Potter’s College Deans Council, worked in the Admissions Office, and competed for WKU’s Forensics (Speech and Debate) Team. Through the Forensics program, I learned how to construct and deliver compelling arguments from the best academic coaches in the country. When I brought these public speaking skills into internship and job interviews, I was able to confidently apply my experiences and studies to the positions I was interviewing for. This ability truly paid off when I landed a post-graduation apprenticeship at a company called Meet Minneapolis - an organization that works to promote Minneapolis as a convention, events, and leisure travel destination. Recently they’ve booked the 2017 & 2018 Summer X Games, the 2018 Super Bowl, and the 2019 NCAA Final Four. After I completed my apprenticeship, Meet Minneapolis hired me full time as a Marketing Associate and I have recently been promoted to a Destination Services and Events Manager.

I wholehearted believe the knowledge and experience I gained at WKU set the trajectory for where I am today. It’s a place that delighted me with the beauty of its campus, warmed my heart with newfound family and friends, and helped me discover my true potential.
