Catherine Guinto, April 2013
What is your name and academic area of study?
Catherine Guinto and my academic area of study is Health Sciences.
What inspired you to seek a college education?
I have always wanted to get my Bachelor of Science degree. I feel like it will open many doors even at my age. A college education can empower a person in many ways. Life challenges will always come our way and the skills one learns along the journey of college can put a person more in control of their future and can lend a safety net when life changes occur.
What would you say your motivation for succeeding is?
Although I love owning my own business, the idea of having the opportunity to reach out to other avenues of life is a real motivation. My degree in Health Services will give me the pleasure of offering my skills while helping others and making a difference in the world.
Do you have any academic achievements you would like to share, and what are some of your possible career goals?
I don't have any specifics on my career goals. I would like to become involved in helping with a cause such as cancer, diabetes, The American Heart Association or another non-profit organization. I feel because of my many years of marketing experience along with my education in health services, I could be a successful member of any team related to community health.
In as many words as you would like, please tell us a little about yourself.
I have been married for 26 years to Joe and we have a 24 year old son, Joey. Joey also attends WKU-O and will complete his Master's degree before I get my Bachelors. We have a dog, Mac and we live on a little piece of our farm near Richland, Indiana. I have owned a beauty salon for many years. I enjoy and appreciate every single customer that has walked through my door! If I continue to work as a stylist until I retire or if I use my college education to pursue another avenue of opportunity, I will implement my skills and college degree to have a positive effect on my own life and my community as well.
