Fall Festival Activities

Annual College Cup Competition

Departments can participate in various competitions the week of Fall Fest, including pumpkin decorating, food drive, booth decoration, and costume contest (see below for more details).Departments can secure points when they or a member of their department wins a contest. The Department with the most votes will receive the coveted College Cup (and bragging rights) that will remain in their office until next year’s fall fest. They will also be featured on our social media!

Competition Point System:

  • Pumpkin decorating contest - 20 points for each category
  • Food drive - 1 point for each assigned department item; 1/2 point for any other item from the Food Pantry's suggested list
  • Costume contest - 10 points to department of individual winner; 5 points to department of each group winner individual
  • Booth decoration contest - 20 points

Department and Student Organization Pumpkin Decorating Contest

This contest is open to all PCAL Departments and Student groups (including PCAL friends) who wish to participate. Each group/department should decorate 1 pumpkin that will be judged on Department/PCAL Pocus pride and presentation. Each category will have 1 PCAL department winner and 1 student group winner, making a total of 4 winning pumpkins.

To submit a pumpkin for judging, the group/department should email to wkupcaldcs@gmail.com. Photos of the decorated pumpkins are due by Oct. 12, 2021.

Departmental Food Drive

We are back again this year with another Food Drive Competition. All donations go to the on-campus Food Pantry, located at the Office of Sustainability, which has a high demand for items due to the ongoing COVID pandemic. This competition is open only to PCAL Departments.

One point awarded for each designated item and 1/2 point for any other donated items from the list.

A Dean's Council ambassador will come to pick up the items from the office in the morning of Fall Fest Day (Oct. 18), to deliver the items to the food pantry.

  • Theatre and Dance - pasta sauce
  • SoM - dry pasta
  • English -canned beans
  • Socl & Crim - condiments (pickles, salad dressing, ketchup, etc.)
  • Comm - pop tarts
  • History -canned/packed tuna and chicken
  • Political Science - canned ravioli
  • Philosophy -canned veggies (not green beans or corn)
  • Folk Studies -  canned beef stew
  • Art & Design - whole grain granola bars
  • Music -boxed crackers/snacks
  • Modern Languages - precooked rice

*These items are in particularly high demand right now. Please try to make healthy choices when buying your items.

Costume Contest

This contest is open to any individual and group that wishes to participate. Participants should dress up in their best PCAL Town-inspired costume and submit a photo via email to wkupcaldcs@gmail.com by Oct. 12, 2021.

Bring your best witches and cats, but make sure your costume is respectful to everyone’s culture and appropriate for social media. All costume entries will be put into a bracket and voted for on the DCS instagram account. The winners will be announced on the day of Fall Festival. There will be one individual winner and one group winner. The winning individual will be awarded a PCAL Prize Pack, including a free Fall Festival T-shirt! The winning individual’s Department will be awarded points towards the College Cup Competition (see details above).
