Research

I am a developmental psychologist, whose research focuses on social and emotional development, beginning in infancy, by focusing on the dynamics of the family. Using longitudinal designs, I examine how individual characteristics on the child (e.g., temperament) and parents (e.g., parenting practices & marital functioning) influence the development of emotion regulation and parent-child relationships.

My research program is guided by 3 major and interconnected themes, focusing on an understanding of individual differences in infant and toddler development in families. The themes include: 1) the development of emotion and its regulation, 2) the impact of context (e.g., early parent-child relationships and the marital relationship), and 3) individual differences in child temperament. I am particularly interested in the role of the father in his child’s development, such as how father-infant dynamics are similar to or differ from mother-infant dynamics.
