I’m actually going to make a difference with this degree. I’m not just going to sit in an office. I’m going to get to give back and help people.

ASHTON WALLACE

When I started here at Western Kentucky University as a freshman, you know I came in really undecided. I didn’t really know where I wanted to go; what I wanted to do. However, one of my advisors actually advised me to take a Healthcare Administration introductory class, and I took that first , you know, HCA 340 class and it really just sparked something inside of me that made me want to really start with the program and learn more. I really see the passion of the professors here at Western, and it’s really made me want to go out there and have the same passion that they have.

WKU is located very strategically in the South Eastern US to areas like Nashville, TN. for all types of career opportunities.

Healthcare is all about change and our professors understand that. They bring the changes that are happening into our classroom and help provide a wide range of knowledge on how to handle those changes as healthcare executives.

Not too long ago I was in their seat. I remember those days, but to see the enthusiasm that they are out there and to be a part of something… to see that passion only makes me want to give back that much more to those students. They have the access to be able to come out here; we can talk. Talk about real life experiences; how that applies to the classroom. And if it wasn’t for somebody giving me a chance and taking a chance on me…and allowing me to come here and get exposure… That’s what it’s all about.

JON HANCOCK

I had a chance to network with local healthcare executives. I will soon be job shadowing with a COO of a local hospital. In March we will be going to the Health Care Executive Congress in Chicago which will allow me to talk to and meet healthcare executives from all over the country

TERRI J. CUNNINGHAM

Networking is always a plus in anything that you do; not just in healthcare. ACHE the American College of Healthcare Executives is a phenomenal group to be a part of … I have been to the conference twice. The first year I went the department actually paid for me to go, and it was amazing. There, I met other students from other Healthcare Administration programs who were doing amazing things with their internships and practicum’s and things like that and I was like, “WOW”! I mean it’s one of the best conferences that I’ve ever been to and the people that I’ve met... I have kept in contact with several of them who are CEO’s and different things like that. And that’s truly what it’s all about. If you can show that you are willing and able they are going to reach out and help you.

The engagement in the classrooms to diversity; the relationship I had with the staff all of these things help prepare students to be successful in an ever changing healthcare world.

I’m confident that when I leave here I’ll have all the tools necessary to conquer those challenges and be a well rounded healthcare executive.
