When and where did you study abroad?
Spring 2013 - Moulay Ismail University in Meknes, Morocco
Tell us about your experience abroad:
During the spring semester of 2013, I studied abroad in Meknes, Morocco at Moulay Ismail University. Morocco is breathtakingly beautiful! I never experienced a country with such a dramatic and contrasting landscape within such a close proximity. Snow covered mountains, the Sahara Desert, green rolling hills - the only thing more alluring than the terrain was the hospitality that I often experienced at the university and within the community. Before I studied in Meknes, I had previously studied abroad on two other occasions, once in Australia and again in France. Of all three countries I found my time in Morocco to be the most culturally rewarding. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about my time abroad in Morocco.
What was your favorite moment abroad?
While I was in Meknes I led an English class twice a week. Volunteering gave me the chance to root myself in Meknes apart from my American peers and host university. Initially, the opportunity intimidated me but by the time I left Morocco, I knew that I had met the challenge I was presented with and befriended my students in the process. In the end, I think it was my students that taught me the most. I will forever be their grateful pupil.
