  • Location: Academic Complex Rm 211
  • Time: 6:00pm - 7:30pm

Greetings WKU Students. I am pleased to announce that the Bowling Green Chapter of the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI), the nation's leading advocacy group for individuals living with mental illness (and their loved ones), will be now offering an on-campus support group for students struggling with mental health issues. The group is free, confidential, open to students in all degree programs, and led by trained facilitators who are living in recovery themselves. A formal diagnosis is not required to attend and the group follows a structured support group model utilized by NAMI nationwide.

I will be the faculty member overseeing this group (along with trained NAMI staff) and we will meet twice a month on the following Mondays from 6-7:30 pm in Room 211 of the Academic Complex: 2/1, 2/8, 2/22, 3/14, 3/28, 4/11, 4/25, 5/2.  Pizza, water, and soft drinks will be available at meetings.

Please email me at jay.gabbard@wku.edu if you have any questions.

7:00am - 5:00pm
  • Location: Rough River Lake, Falls of Rough, Ky
  • Time: 7:00am - 5:00pm

This is an offer to military veterans at Western Kentucky University. The day would consist of the Veteran fishing with a member of the community, getting a complimentary meal and a free t-shirt or hat. If you can provide your own transportation to Rough River Lake, the entire rest of the day is taken care of for you to enjoy and fish.

This is being offered through the Army Corps of Engineers in Falls of Rough, Kentucky. Three of the Rangers there are WKU alumni and came up with the idea to extend the offer to WKU veterans.

If you are interested, please join the event so that I can give my contact an estimate of the level of interest and veterans who'd wish to attend this. I will continue to post information as it is brought to my attention. Please invite or share this event with your friends who are veterans at WKU so that they can know about it, as well.
