Western Kentucky University

letter from the advisor

Dear WKU Parents,

On behalf of Greek Affairs, I welcome your family to Western Kentucky University. Your child made one of the most important decisions of their life, and their decision to become a student at WKU was the right one.

As your son or daughter makes the major transition to college the experience can become a very exciting and challenging one for your student. This time brings new challenges and opportunities. As your student looks for ways to find their "home away from home" on a large, vibrant and diverse campus, we hope you will encourage your child to consider the benefits of membership in a fraternity or sorority. Membership in a Greek organization gives your child a unique opportunity to get involved on campus, gain leadership skills, develop interpersonal skills, form meaningful relationships, further enrich their academics, and discover what it means to be a contributing member of society.

For the past 47 years, Greek life has been celebrated on WKU's campus. Greek organizations are some of the largest and most visible student organizations on campus. Over 1800 students are members of our 33 values- based organizations. The Greek community is an integral part of student life at Western Kentucky University and I hope the tradition will continue with your child's membership.

It is my hope you will encourage your son or daughter to make the best decision about whether or not he or she should be a part of Greek life. Educate yourself by reading through our website and recruitment book to become more familiar with what our fraternities and sororities have to offer your child. I hope you will have a conversation with your student about what he or she is hoping to gain from membership in a Greek organization. Fraternities and sororities are different on every college campus, so please allow your student to choose an organization with whom they feel most comfortable and can grow as an individual. Participating in recruitment or membership intake is a great way for him or her to meet new friends and make the lifelong commitment to a values-based organization.

Greek Affairs is committed to the success of your son or daughter. Our mission is to enrich your child's life experiences and foster the values our organizations were founded on. We expect our Greek organizations to enhance the mission of the institution while focusing on their commitment to service, academic development, peer accountability, social experiences, advancement of brotherhood/sisterhood and leadership development.

Congratulations to your child on their decision to attend Western Kentucky University. If you have any questions at all please do not hesitate to contact our office.

Warmest Regards,
