Study by Doctor of Physical Therapy students on the effectiveness of the MELT Method®
Older adult participants over age 55 are needed for this IRB approved study, which
will involve examining the effectiveness of the MELT Method® foot exercises on plantar
sensation, balance and ankle/foot mobility. Each participant will receive an assessment
of foot sensation, ankle/foot range of motion and balance ability prior to and after
a series of foot exercises using the MELT Method® .
The MELT Method® is a simple self-treatment program consisting of foot exercises performed using small mini balls designed to target the tissue on the bottom of the feet (meltmethod.com). The exercises take approximately 10 minutes to complete and will be performed for 2 weeks. Each participant will receive individualized instruction in the foot exercises, a foot treatment kit (a $50 value) and modest remuneration for completion of the program.
