Saturday, April 12, 2014
Kentucky Library and Museum
CANstruct for a Cause challenges organizations to think critically about local, national, and global hunger issues. Groups collect canned goods for local food pantries while also discussing hunger issues and engaging in awareness activities. Participants build structures representative of their organization or group. The event ends with a discussion of local poverty and food needs.
Who can participate?
Campus and community groups of two or more participants can form a group
Is there a minimum number of cans to collect?
There is no minimum number of cans to collect. It usually takes at least 250 canned goods to create a structure. Three of the four previous winners exceed 500 cans.
Who gets the canned goods?
The canned goods will be donated to local food pantries: HOTEL INC, American Red Cross, and The Food Abides - WKU Food Pantry
How can I sign up a group?
Groups can sign up by contacting Kara Drury at firstname.lastname@example.org by April 4, 2014.
How can I participate if I do not have a group?
There are a number of ways individuals can participate without having a group.
- Come out to view the structures at 2:00pm.
- Volunteer at the event helping with various tasks.
- Assist with counting and loading at the beginning and/or end of the event.
- Bring donations of non-perishable items to the event.
An award will be given for the most cans collected, most creative structure, and best overall structure.
