January 23, 2014 - Spring Festival Gala (Bowling Green Junior High School)
The Confucius Institute at WKU partnered with the Confucius Institute at Binghamton University to celebrate the "Year of the Horse." The group specialized in "Opera," and performed a face changing act, Chinese acrobats, musical instruments, and opera. For more information, please click the following link: Gala at BGJHS
January 29, 2014 - The Confucius Institute at WKU brought a Loin Dance group, a group of Chinese dancers, and the WKU Chinese Music Club to celebrate the "Chinese New Year," at the Warren County Public Library, as part of its Winter Reading Program. Our program has been teaching 'Learn With Me: Chinese' for the preschool students and tai chi as part of our community outreach at the library. February 8, 2014 - 2014 New Year Celebration Dinner
The Confucius Institute at WKU celebrated the Chinese New Year "Year of the Horse" with over 150 WKU faculty, staff, students, Chinese Hanban Teachers, and District Superintendents/Coordinators at the Knicely Center. President Ransdell welcomed everyone, and informed our guests of the accomplishments of the CI at WKU, and what the future holds. In attendance, was honorable guests from Hangzhou Normal University, who presented Dr. Ransdell with a gift.
February 8, 2014 - 2014 Spring Festival Gala
The Confucius Institute at WKU will host Hangzhou Normal University's Student Troupe, who will perform "An Oriental Monsoon. The performance will take place in Van Meter Auditorium, with the doors opening up at 6:00 P.M., and the performance to start at 6:30 P.M. The event was free and open to the public, which drew over 500 individuals for the event.
February 21, 2014 - Dishman-McGinnis Elementary Visited the Confucius Institute
Over 80 students from Dishman-McGinnis came to visit the Confucius Institute on Friday, February 21, 2014. Below is a note from Ms. Lizzie Correa, Teacher at Dishman-McGinnis:
"Our 80, K - 2nd grade students had a great experience visiting the Confucius Institute. They enjoyed learning about and being exposed to the Chinese culture. They enjoyed the hands-on activities and the friendliness of the staff that taught them phrases in Chinese, how to use chopsticks, and hot to write characters. Great memories were made!!!"
April 25, 2014 - WKU Symphony Orchestra with Ms. Xiaojun Huo (Chief Erhu Soloist)
The Symphony at WKU will perform its 5th concert, and has partnered with the Confucius Institute at WKU to bring in Ms. Xiaojun Huo, the Chief Erhu Soloist of China Opera and Dance Drama House, member of the Chinese musicians association as well as a national first-class actor. May 18 - May 31, 2014 - 2014 High School Summer China Bridge Program
The Confucius Institute at WKU will lead another group of WKU faculty, staff, students, and community members to China. For anyone interested in learning more (including the itinerary), please go to the following link: 2014 Adult Summer Program
July 16 - August 1, 2014 - The Confucius Institute at WKU will lead its fourth group of high school students to China. Over 800 U.S. high school students will travel to China, and go to various provinces in China. This is for any high school individual, and anyone intersted, please go to the following link for all of the information: 2014 High School Summer Bridge Camp
