Cultural Enhancement Series Season Information

Anne Lamott

Anne Lamott on September 27, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. CST in Van Meter Hall

Lamott is a best-selling novelist with works such as Hard Laughter, Blue Shoe, All New People, and many other titles gracing bookshelves around the world. She has also produced several notable books of nonfiction, such as her writing guide, Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life, which has been referenced in English classrooms around the country and WKU.

Barnes and Noble will be in the lobby selling books before and after the presentation.  There will be a brief Q&A session at the conclusion of the presentation in the auditorium.  There will be a book signing. 

Admission to this event is free, but seating is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis.


 

Ben Sollee

Ben Sollee on October 20, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. CST in Van Meter Hall

Sollee is a Kentucky-born cellist and composer. Initially beginning his touring career on a bicycle in 2009, according to his biography, Solle has since traveled over 4,000 miles and reached even more hearts (and ears) than ever before, such as when he performed in Carnegie Hall and the Lincoln Center.

Admission to this event is free, but seating is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis.


 

Joel Sartore

Joel Sartore on November 7, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. CST in Van Meter Hall

A National Geographic photographer, conservationist and author, Sartore has seen much of the world—and photographed it.

Admission to this event is free, but seating is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis.

Photojournalism Gallery Exhibit, photos by Joel Sartore:  “Amphibians: Vibrant and Vanishing” in Mass Media and Technology Hall, August 22-November 18, 2016. Hours: Sunday 3pm – 9 pm, M-W 9 am to 9 pm, TH-F, 9 am – 5 pm closed on Saturday.


 

Sarah Parcak

Sarah Parcak on February 15, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. CST in Van Meter Hall

A space archaeologist whose recent TED Talk earned her the 2016 TED Prize, uses satellite images to discover ancient sites that had previously disappeared. Her TED bio recalls that Parcak is in many ways “like a modern-day Indiana Jones,” as she moves forward in finding and identifying unique surfaces from an aerial perspective.

 Black Violin

Black Violin on February 21, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. CST in Van Meter Hall

A musical duo that features a blend of classical hip-hop, rock, R&B and bluegrass music, Kevin Sylvester and Wilner Baptiste are making waves in the music world. Their most recent album, Stereotypes, was released in 2015.

Admission to this event is free, but seating is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis.


 

 David Sedaris

David Sedaris on April 22, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. CST in Van Meter Hall

Known for his “sardonic wit and incisive social critiques,” Sedaris has published several books and essays, including Barrel Fever and Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owls. The latter work’s audio version received a Grammy-nomination for Best Spoken Word Album at the 56th Annual Awards.

Barnes and Noble will be in the lobby selling books before and after the presentation.  There will be a brief Q&A session at the conclusion of the presentation in the auditorium.  Mr. Sedaris will sign books before and after his presentation.

Admission to this event is free, but seating is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis.
