Writing Technical Information
6 Hours Total (Two 3–Hour Sessions)
Demands for daily writing burden employees who must convey technical information to others who may or may not share their areas of expertise. Technical writing must be clear, concise, complete, and most of all, understandable to a variety of audiences. Understanding the writing process and special strategies for organizing technical documents (from letters to major reports) can enable the writer to respond more effectively to specific writing situations.
The participant will learn: (1) the writing process as it applies to technical writing, (2) particular problems of conveying technical material, and (3) the design of technical documents that are clear and that communicate effectively with a variety of audiences.
- Review writing process (analyzing audience, generating ideas, formulating strategy, developing support materials, drafting, revising, and polishing)
- Review strategies for organizing material
- Practice all stages of the writing process using content specific to the needs of the participants
