The Parents’ Association provides parents and families with campus information, communication regarding campus activities, and a direct connection to University faculty and staff. It is open to any parent, grandparent, or guardian of a student enrolled at WKU.
The Parents’ Association is governed by the Parents’ Advisory Council that meets three times each year. The meetings are designed to engage parents and families in the WKU experience and allow more opportunity for parents to gather with University officials and share ideas.
To leave a legacy for years to come, the Parents’ Advisory Council has initiated a Parents’ Association Endowment. With a goal of $100,000, the Parents’ Association Endowment will strengthen the Family of the Year award that began in 2007. The award recognizes the family of a current WKU student who is selected based on the student’s essay submission. Currently, the award winner receives a $500 scholarship. With a fully endowed fund of $100,000, the scholarship award will grow to nearly $5,000 annually. To meet the endowment goal, we are asking you, the parents of WKU students, to consider a gift of $1,000. The gift may be spread over five years, which would equal $200 per year or just under $17 per month
In addition, each year, the Parents’ Association selects several student-directed initiatives to implement as an effort to continually improve student life at WKU. The Parents’ Association has completed important projects, which include:
• Emergency telephone poles
• Leadership tapes for student organizations
• Student escort service led by the WKU Police
• WKU Parents’ Handbook
• Alcohol awareness programming
