Currently, the Downing University Center has very limited student staff positions due to the renovation project (www.wku.edu/duc_renovation). University Center student positions include:

  • University Centers Student Associate

    Student associates in the University Centers are valuable assets whose responsibilities include providing information and maintaining a clean, student-oriented environment. The Downing University Center and Garrett Conference Center will be evaluated by the actions and attitudes of our student employees because of their continuing contact with members of the community. Student associates should always keep this in mind and govern themselves accordingly. We strive to employ individuals who possess the abilities, qualifications, and personal qualities that will enable them to contribute to the purposes and goals of the University Centers.

  • Student Maintenance Assistant

    The Student Maintenance Assistant will assist with maintaining the operations of the Downing University Center and Garrett Conference Center and must be available to work between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. The Student Maintenance Assistant is expected to possess strong communication, customer service, and maintenance skills. The Student Maintenance Assistant should have experience in general building maintenance and possess a basic knowledge of tools. Students will be hired with the understanding that there is a 90-day probation period.

  • Audio-Visual Assistant

    The Audio-visual Assistant is an integral part of the DUC student staff team. Responsibilities of this position include weekly inventory of AV equipment in the DUC Auditorium and management of AV system at every event scheduled in the DUC Auditorium. The AV Assistant must be extremely flexible in scheduling and may be asked to assist with AV set-ups in other DUC meetings rooms and at DUC programs.

  • Main Office Assistant

    Under direct supervision of the Office Coordinator and Reservations Assistant, the office assistant will be responsible for staffing the Downing University Center Main Office, including answering phones, greeting customers, and providing assistance in making reservations. Applicants should be knowledgeable of Microsoft Office Software, exercise care with confidential matters, possess excellent communication skills, be detail-oriented, prompt, dependable, and organized.
