Welcome To Graves Gilbert Clinic (GGC) at WKU!
We want to welcome you and your son or daughter to the WKU Community. Our goal is to provide quality healthcare to your student and help them to obtain and maintain an optimal healthy lifestyle while at WKU. On this page you will find the most commonly asked questions that will assist your student's transition of their health care needs to GGC @ WKU and the Bowling Green community.
Student Health Care Questions That Parents Commonly Ask:
My student will be taking prescription medicine while at college, what is the best
way to handle this?
GGC @ WKU dispensary stocks frequently prescribed medications at a reasonable cost to the student. Medications must be ordered by one of Health Services Providers to be able to use the dispensary. At this time we can not insurance bill these medications to your insurance plan. You can obtain a copy of prescriptions your student takes from your local provider which they can get filled at any local Bowling Green Pharmacies. For those students taking medication for birth control please make sure that you bring your medical records from the prescribing provider.
For those students taking medication for ADD/ADHD...We treat ADD/ADHD with documentation of diagnosis - that may be current testing or with review of records from prior provider. Initial visits are monthly and after dose is stable the student may be able to call to pick up a written prescription. Visits are required at a minimum of each semester (including summer if taking classes).
There is a Shopping Shuttle Bus that transports students to various locations in Bowling Green which include pharmacies. You may visit WKU Parking & Transportation Transit Services for further details.
Must my student have a completed medical record form and physical to enter WKU?
No, at this time GGC @ WKU doesn't require previous medical records or physicals to be seen. However, if needed by GGC physicians, an Authorization Form (to release restricted health information) will be completed by the student to request any needed records.
Must my student have a complete physical each year?
No, unless required by an athletic team or educational department.
Are there any immunizations that my student needs to have prior to entering WKU?
No. There are currently no requirements for immunizations. However, we do highly recommend certain immunizations upon entering the University. Click here for a list of these recommendations.
If I am concerned about the medical status of my student; will you be able to provide me with information?
Per HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act) all health records of students age 18 and over are private and confidential. No medical information can be released to any party without the expressed written consent of the student, unless state or federal laws mandate the release. In the event of a life threatening illness, the attending physician will notify parents/legal guardian.
My student is currently receiving allergy immunotherapy. Will he/she be able to continue with this immunotherapy while at WKU?
Yes, either have your student bring in the serum and shot record from the Allergist or have them send it directly GGC @ WKU. The staff will continue your allergists orders while on campus. Patients must provide their own extracts. Allergy injections are administered without an appointment.
Do you have a Physical Therapy Department in Health Service?
