Sending files to others over the internet securely
WKU does not recommend sending any sensitive or overly large files via email, and provides a send files securely facility. Email is a very convenient way to send information over the internet, but it is not very secure. Servers that handle email don't always use encryption and can store data and attached files for a very long time with little oversight to the safety of their contents. By using the WKU file sending application, you ensure that the files are only stored on WKU's servers until the recipient retrieves it. The application can also be used to send files that are too large for email to handle. WKU's servers will store the file for 7 days to allow your recipient to retrieve it. Files with sensitive information should further be password protected if your application allows for it.
Example of using the Send Files Application
After logging in, you will be asked if you want to send or receive files, select send and press the continue button:
You will be presented with a screen allowing you to select up to 4 files to send, and a email field. Select your files by clicking the browse button, fill in the recipient's email address in the 'Send to' field, enter your email address in the 'Enter your mail address' field, A subject and a message for your recipient. Press the send file button and your recipient will receive an email with a link for them to retrieve the file from WKU's servers.
