Weather and climate play a fundamental role in shaping society. Day-to-day weather, including fluctuations in temperature and the occurrence of storms, affects business and public safety.
Because weather conditions can change rapidly and vary dramatically the availability of timely weather data is vital to the public and decision makers.
The Kentucky Mesonet is a research-grade environmental monitoring network that offers reliable weather and climate data to serve diverse needs in communities across the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Consistent data is needed 1) to manage risk associated with daily weather and impending climate change, 2) to increase efficiencies in agriculture yields and energy production, and 3) reduce losses realized in other weather-sensitive sectors of the economy.
