Welcome to the developing Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program at Western Kentucky University. The purpose of the DPT Program, an entry level professional program, is to provide students with the necessary knowledge and skills to become skilled physical therapists. The DPT Program consists of 118 credit hours over 3 years. The mission of the WKU DPT Program is to serve the health care and preventative needs of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, including the rural and under-served areas, by developing culturally competent, caring, and autonomous physical therapists who will engage in critical thinking, evidence-based practice, professional behavior, life-long learning, and community/professional service.

The DPT Program at WKU accepted their Inaugural DPT Class in June, 2013, and the second cohort of students June, 2014.  We are working hard to develop a high quality DPT Program at WKU as we welcome two new faculty to the Program (Fall 2014).  Applications for the 2015 Summer cohort will be accepted by PTCAS beginning early July, 2014 through November 3, 2014. Application information for the Summer 2015 class will be available at portal.ptcas.org beginning July 2014.

Accreditation:

Graduation from a physical therapist education program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE), 1111 North Fairfax Street, Alexandria, VA 22314; phone; 703-706-3245; accreditation@apta.org is necessary for eligibility to sit for the licensure examination, which is required in all states.

Effective April 24, 2013, Western Kentucky University has been granted Candidate for Accreditation status by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (1111 North Fairfax Street, Alexandria, VA, 22314; phone: 703-706-3245; email: accreditation@apta.org). Candidate for Accreditation is a pre-accreditation status of affiliation with the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education that indicates that the program may matriculate students in technical/professional courses and that the program is progressing toward accreditation. Candidate for Accreditation is not an accreditation status nor does it assure eventual accreditation.
