Professional Studies Citizen and Scholar Awards

The Department of Professional Studies will present a $500.00 award to outstanding students eligible to graduate in the fall or spring commencement from each of the Professional Studies disciplines (Office Systems Technologies/ Information Systems, Paralegal Studies and Business Management). Recipients will be selected by a committee of Professional Studies faculty and the awards will be presented in April of each academic year. Applicant interviews with the selection committee may be required. 

To be eligible for these awards, students must:

  • Have a grade point average of 3.5 or above 
  • A documented record of service, leadership and/ or extracurricular activities meriting recognition
To apply students must submit the following:
  • Letter of introduction outlining academic, service, leadership and/or extracurricular activities;
  • Current transcript; and
  • A complete application found here.

Gloria Young Hovious Memorial Scholarship

The Department of Professional Studies will present a $600.00 award for the Gloria Young Hovious Memorial Scholarship in April of each academic year to a student taking courses in the Department of Professional Studies. This scholarship was established by family, colleagues, and friends to honor the memory of Ms. Hovious who served as a prominent member of the WKU's Business Education Department faculty.

To be eligible for this scholarship, students must:

maintain full-time enrollment (12 hours or more per semester) during the academic year in which the scholarship is awarded.

Recipients will be selected by a committee of Professional Studies faculty and the scholarship will be presented in April of each academic year to be paid in increments of $300.00 per semester.

Clyde B. Cates Scholarships

The Department of Professional Studies will award two - $600.00 scholarships for the Clyde B. Cates Scholarship in April of each academic year. The Clyde B. Cates Scholarships were established through the College Heights Foundation of WKU at the testamentary bequest of Mrs. Clyde B. Cates, a retired professor (1965) of business administration and economics at WKU, to honor J.E. Boulton. Mr. Boulton was a graduate of Southern Normal School, a forerunner of WKU. 

To be eligible for this scholarship, a student must maintain full time enrollment (12 hours or more per semester) during the academic year in which the scholarship is awarded. Recipients will be selected by a committee of Professional Studies faculty and the scholarships will be presented in April of each academic year. Each scholarship will be paid in increments of $300.00 per semester.

  • Include a statement as to how the scholarship would assist them in attaining their educational and future goals.

 Bowling Green Chapter of International Association of Administrative

Professionals Scholarship

 The Bowling Green Chapter of International Association of Administrative Professionals will award two $875.00 scholarships each academic year. These scholarships were established through the College Heights Foundation of WKU in 1987. They are awarded through interest earnings to deserving student leaders who possess the qualities of character, integrity, dependability, industriousness and human compassion meriting recognition. Recipients will be selected by a committee of Professional Studies faculty and the scholarship will be presented in April of each academic year to be paid in increments of $437.50 over two semesters. **

To be eligible for this scholarship, a student must:

  • maintain full time enrollment (12 hours or more per semester) during the academic year in which the scholarships are awarded;
  • be pursuing a course of study leading to an associate's degree in office systems technology, office management, information systems or business management;
  • have completed a minimum of one semester of college with a grade point average of 2.5 or above;
  • maintain a grade point average of 2.5 or above in the first semester after the scholarship is awarded (to receive the second increment of the scholarship).**
