The SSRC will provide professional consultation and research activities to meet specific needs and objectives to businesses and organizations throughout the region. This may include, but is not limited to:
- market research,
- political polling,
- development of a research design,
- development of an evaluation study,
- development of data collection instruments,
- collecting data for attitudinal and behavioral surveys,
- conducting qualitative interviews and focus groups,
- statistical analysis of data and reporting of results, and
- writing final reports and summaries of research activities.
The SSRC is an interdisciplinary organization that draws faculty members from several academic departments and two colleges. The Center will give undergraduate and graduate students an opportunity to collect social scientific data from clients in the business world and learn how to present the findings in a professional manner.
The SSRC provides faculty members with a location where they can teach students how large social survey research projects are conducted; more importantly, this facility allows students from social science disciplines to obtain practical, first-hand experience, collecting social survey data.
The SSRC has the resources to develop simple or sophisticated sampling designs and to collect social scientific data using mailed questionnaires, telephone interviews, web-based questionnaires, focus groups, or in-person interviews. The SSRC facility is located in the Small Business Accelerator at WKU’s Center for Research and Development. The heart of the facility is a 10-station call center with an IBM SPSS Data Collection Computer System, which allows WKU faculty and students to create and administer sophisticated telephone and internet surveys.
