The gemstone of the Small Special Education Programs Caucus is the SSEPC Monograph, which is published approximately every two years. The Monograph contains articles that relate to a variety of teacher education topics, especially as they relate to small programs. Caucus members write the articles.
From The Editors
The idea that Small Special Education Programs Caucus (SSEPC) establish its own Monograph Series emerged out of the genuine concerns of its members over a period of several years. Faculty members from teacher education programs in different institutions felt a strong need to exchange ideas, discuss problems and concerns, establish a network, and benefit from each others expertise in solving problems unique to teacher education in small special education programs. Meeting once or twice a year at the annual conferences of the Teacher Education Division and The Council For Exceptional Children was not enough. The scope of the Caucus Newsletter seemed to be limited. A monograph as a collection of several ideas and diverse but effective practices seemed essential for the ongoing professional development of SSEPC members. SSEPC members also felt a need for mentoring each other in the areas of research and publications. While teaching and teaching-related activities are the primary responsibilities of the faculty in small colleges, publications, research, and grant-writing become important variables for promotion, tenure and any other reward system for the faculty. There was a consensus that articles published in the monograph will be relevant to the professional interests, needs and concerns of SSEPC members and teacher educators. The monograph was expected to provide an opportunity for learning and publishing with mentoring from a broader pool of professional colleagues. The call for papers was extended to all members of the Teacher Education Division.
