Kentucky Council for Economic Education's Stock Market Game Program

The Stock Market Game Program is an online educational program (and competition!) offered by the Kentucky Council on Economic Education for over 20 years, and used in classrooms to help teach math, social studies, business, economics, technology and reading/writing skills. Over 10,000 students participate annually! The fee is $10/team (typically 3-5 students per team).

What if I don’t know anything about the stock market?  Many teachers who have used the Stock Market Game successfully in the classroom tell us they didn’t know anything about the stock market or investing when they started; they learned along with the students.

The Teacher Support Center includes: Teacher Guide, Course Outline, Rules, Lessons and Activities, Assessments, Standards Alignment, Investor Background, Publications, Portfolio Management, Understanding Portfolios, Projects, and InvestWrite.

How do I make time for the program in a full curriculum? It takes 3 or 4 class periods to introduce your students to The Stock Market Game Program and to teach about the stock market; once it starts students should have the opportunity to review their team portfolio, post trades and research stocks about once a week, in class or on their own. You have the flexibility of choosing how much or how little class time to devote to the program. The flexibility of the program allows you to use it with a variety of subjects, including social studies, mathematics, business, practical living, language arts, as well as economics. It can also be integrated into school clubs, rainy day programs, after school, and gifted student activities.
