Study Abroad and Global Learning Video Transcript
Male student: Hey, you went to Italy and studied abroad last year didn’t you?
Female student: Yeah
Male student: I was thinking about it and wanted to know how I could do it.
Female student: Well, I had a really great time but I had to plan a lot to make sure I had everything I needed. The first thing I did was to get an appointment with an advisor at the office of Study abroad and they really helped to get me started. I hear they had general information sessions if you just want to learn more.
Male student: Okay, well what do I need to do before I see someone in the office?
Female student: Well, I met with my academic advisor to make sure that the semester I chose was the right one for me, and to see how my study abroad credit would count for my major, minor or as a gen-ed. credit. And I decided where I wanted to go and what I wanted to get out of it.
Male student: Alright, well, what did the study abroad advisor ask you?
Female student: He’ll talk to you about financial aid, scholarships, and different types of study options. They also got WKU Faculty-led programs, direct exchange programs, but what they really want to know is that you want out of the experience.
Male student: Okay, and then what?
Female student: Then you decide where you want to go and fill out the application. The great thing about the form is that it is also the WorldTopper scholarship application. Just make sure you read all of the direction first. Once they have your application, they will send you a packet. Now that’s important because it asks you for the courses that you will be taking while you are studying abroad; they got to be approved before can leave. The packet also got a student responsibility statement, emergency contact information, information about insurance, and it asks for a copy of your passport. It is okay if you do not have one now, just be sure to get one or else you can’t leave the country.
Male student: Okay, sounds good, is that everything?
Female student: Almost. The office also has some pre-departure sessions where they talk about money issues, health and safety, travel and international communication.
Male student: Alright, you talked me into it, where do I start?
Female student: Just walk through this door.
