The Costume Shop, located in FAC #306 & 307, is a fun and vibrant place where students have the chance to both design and create costumes for plays, musicals, operas, and dance concerts.
The Scene Shop, located in the Valley of FAC is a hands-on work space where students are able to become involved in all aspects of designing and constructing the sets for mainstage productions. Students may also be given the opportunity to design scenery and props for departmental shows themselves.
The Electrics Shop, located in the wings of Russel Miller Theatre gives students the opportunity to design lighting and sound for Theatre & Dance productions, as well as learn how to hang and focus lighting instruments, program and run the lighting and sound boards and serve as electricians and master electricians.
An excellent stage manager is essential to any successful theatre or dance production. Students at WKU learn to work closely with directors, actors, dancers, and designers to help bring about a cohesive work of art. After completing the appropriate course work, students have the opportunity to hone their skills by stage managing one of our many Mainstage & Next Stage productions.
Alumni Darron West accepts his 2012 Tony Award for best sound design for Peter and the Starcatcher.
