Veteran Deferment Policy

Submit this form ONLY if you have already submitted a Certification Request Form
and are requesting to have your tuition deferred for the current semester.

Submission of this form verifies:

  • I am requesting the deferment for the stated semester/term and I hereby acknowledge that I am personally responsible for payment of any outstanding balance (not covered by the Department of Veterans Affairs).
  • The portion not covered by the Department of Veterans Affairs must be paid by the end of the term.
  • I understand that my grades and transcripts will be withheld, and that registration for any future semesters/terms will NOT be allowed until the remaining portion not covered by the Department of Veterans Affairs is PAID in FULL.
  • I further understand that if I drop classes and/or withdraw from the University, I will be subject to the normal refund policies as published by the University, and that any amount owed according to those policies must be paid by me.
  • I understand that if my balance remains unpaid for 90 days following the end of the semester/term for which it is owed, my account will be referred to a collection agency, and any charges associated with this referral and/or processing must be paid by me.

I understand that I have been certified to receive benefits under Chapter 33 and will be allowed to submit a request for deferment for the charges that VA does not cover for the applicable term.

I understand that the deferment amount will be any account balance remaining after all other sources of assistance have credited the account for that term.

I understand that any financial aid that is applied to the student's account will be reimbursed after receipt of tuition from the Department of Veterans Affairs.

I understand that after the VA Office at WKU has verified that the student is entitled to benefits, the deferment form will be processed. At that point a billings code will be placed on the student's account verifyiing that a deferment agreement is in place.

I understand that the billings code on the student's account will exclude the student from the posting of any late fees and also from the drop for non-payment during the applicable term.

I understand that any outstanding balance (the percentage the student must pay plus any fees not covered by VA) for a particular term is due by the end of that term. Accounts with an outstanding balance (not covered by the Department of Veterans Affairs) greater than 90 days after the end of the term will be turned over for collection in accordance with the University's regular collection process.

I undrstand that students on a deferment plan will have a hold placed on their account for any balance not otherwise covered by the Department of Veterans Affairs. This hold will prevent them from registering or requesting a copy of their official transcript until the portion of the balance for which they are responsible is resolved.

I understand that in the event a student officially withdraws from the University, any active deferment plan is null and void and the student is responsible upon withdrawal for any outstanding account balance at that time.

I understand that in the event a student is allowed to drop or add a course and/or charges after the deferment plan has been authorized for that particular term, the plan is still valid. However, the deferment amount may have changed. Regardless, the student is still responsible for any outstanding balance (not covered by the Department of Veterans Affairs) at the end of the term. In addition, the student is still subject to the normal refund polices as published by the University and responsible for any remaining balance as a result thereof.

I understand that if you have an over-award to the Department of Veterans Affairs due to withdrawal of course(s) at another school, you are responsible for your entire balance at WKU until you are in good standing with the Department of Veterans Affairs again.

I understand that if I have a balance from a previous semester, this deferment request will not be processed.
