The Suzanne Vitale Clinical Education Complex at WKU (CEC) will be an interdisciplinary and collaborative project that will create a comprehensive clinical setting for education and health and human services professionals. It builds upon a strong tradition at Western Kentucky University to meet local community needs, fill service delivery gaps, provide opportunities for applied research and enrich both undergraduate and graduate students’ educational experiences through an interdisciplinary team approach.

 

The Suzanne Vitale Clinical Education Complex will initially house the following programs:

• Family Counseling Center

• Child Development Center - $200,000

It will be used most frequently by the Renshaw Early Childhood Center but could potentially be used by the Communication Disorders Clinic, the Talley Family Counseling Center and the Preston Family Acquired Brain Injury Resource Program.

Kelly Autism Program Naming Opportunities

A gift to Kelly Autism Program (KAP) provides an ideal opportunity to permanently link your name, or a name honored by you, with this unique community partnership. WKU and KAP are offering several named gift opportunities, with gift amounts described below.

• Lounge - $100,000

The lounge will be available for college students who are attending classes in the CEC for studying and team projects. Also, this area will serve as a lounge for the participants of KAP, particularly the “KAP Circle of Support” participants who will be developing apartment living skills.

• Kitchen/Dining Room - $50,000

The cooking and eating area will be available for all CEC participants to work on their math and independent life skills as well as a social area for participants to explore various menus from across the world.

• Meeting Room - $50,000

The meeting room will serve as a meeting room for students and families in the Kelly Autism Program as well as a group therapy room for the Preston Family Acquired Brain Injury Resource Program, the Communication Disorders Clinic, the Renshaw Early Childhood Center and the Talley Family Counseling Center.

• Daily Living Suite - $100,000

The laundry room will provide laundry facilities so that the KAP participants can practice their personal and living care skills. It will also be used by the Renshaw Early Childhood Center.

• High School Classroom - $50,000

The high school classroom will be used by the High School participants of KAP for academic and social/behavioral instruction as well as the various activities that are hosted by KAP.*

• Middle School Classroom - $50,000

• Elementary Classroom - $50,000

*CLASSROOM NOTE:

As needs arise, these three classrooms can become one large classroom, which can potentially be used by the Preston Family Acquired Brain Injury Resource Program, the Communication Disorders Clinic, the Renshaw Early Childhood Center and the Talley Family Counseling Center as well.

 

• Director’s Office - $30,000

These offices will be used for individual offices for faculty in the Kelly Autism Program including the Director and Assistant Director.

• Graduate Assistant’s Office - $20,000

This office space will be available for the 3-5 graduate assistants who are employed by the Kelly Autism Program.

• Sensory Room - $20,000

1. In the Name of: The Jacob and Joshua Allen Sensory Room

This sensory room will serve as a relaxation room, a “swaddle” area for the participants to come when they have experienced a sensory overload, and will be used by the participants from the Early Childhood Center and the Kelly Autism Program. Lights, swings, aromas, textures and other sensory items will be available for the participants.

• Safe Room - $10,000

This safe room will be used by participants to find a quiet place to go when they want to be alone, and will be used by the Early Childhood Center and the Kelly Autism Program.

• Two Treatment Rooms - $10,000 each

The treatment rooms will be used to provide therapy for children and adults in the Preston Family Acquired Brain Injury Resource Program, the Communication Disorders Clinic, the Talley Family Counseling Center and the Kelly Autism Program.
