Associate Provost for Research and Creative Activity

WKU Provost David Lee has announced the appointment of  Cheryl Davis as Associate Provost for Research and Creative Activity.

A member of the Biology Department since 1991, Dr. Davis came to WKU after completing her doctorate at Wake Forest University.  She was named a University Distinguished Professor, WKU’s highest faculty honor, in 2008. A recipient of the Ogden College Faculty Award in Teaching, Dr. Davis has stressed student involvement in research throughout her career, serving as an advisor for some 30 graduate students. She and her students have given more than 50 research presentations over the last decade. For the past 15 years, she has served as WKU’s Lead Faculty Representative to the Kentucky Biomedical Research Infrastructure Network (KBRIN).

The Associate Provost oversees the Office of Research and Creative Activity (ORCA) and is charged with expanding the opportunities for research and creative activity for faculty, staff and students across the campus.  In this role, Dr. Davis will be working to expand grant support for scholarship and to assist faculty in commercializing their ideas and supporting economic development.

“An accomplished scholar with a knack for involving students in research, Cheryl is an ideal person in the Associate Provost role,” Dr. Lee said. “The faculty respect her and her work, and she’s in a great position to provide important leadership for research and creative activity at WKU.”

“Cheryl is an outstanding teacher-scholar,” President Gary A. Ransdell said, “and WKU is fortunate to have someone like her in this important role.”

Dr. Davis has been serving as Interim Associate Provost and her appointment takes effect immediately.
